HOW IT WORKS:

Mercer County’s junior and senior high schoolers are welcome to peruse the available jobs below on this page and fill out an application for the position in which they are interested, immediately. Through our meticulous pre-screening process, we will then confidently present the businesses who have agreed to take part in this program, with qualified candidates who are ready to make meaningful contributions.

In turn, participating businesses make a vital commitment to provide enriching, paid work experiences. These internships will equip students with practical skills, industry knowledge, and a competitive edge for their future endeavors.

This mutually beneficial program fosters collaboration between academia and industry, nurturing future talent while providing businesses with motivated individuals.

SKINNER LANDSCAPING

Position: Laborer Intern

Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Duties: These will vary from day to day and will include manual labor assisting in landscaping and concrete projects.

  • Landscaping projects will include (but not limited to) digging, raking, installing mulch and rock, carrying block, and using a wheelbarrow.

  • Concrete work could include setting up forms, grading rock and puddling when concrete is poured.  

  • Some shop work will also be involved, such as cleaning and maintenance of trucks and equipment, and various other tasks as needed.

VIOLATEL

Position: Intern

Hours: 7-8 hour day for 3-5 days a week (Flexible)

Duties: Viola Home Telephone Co. is hiring for an outside summer help employee. Work may include weed-eating, pulling unused equipment, and possibly helping to place fiber optic lines to homes. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience many facets of the communications industry and to gain valuable work knowledge.

MIDWEST BANK

Position: Teller Intern

Requirements: Normal office environment.
Work requires written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with employees, key vendors and regulatory officials. Maintain utmost confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Internet Explorer helpful.

Duties: In this position, you will provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers while being responsible and accountable for the following functions:

  • Deposits and bank operations

  • Receive money, checks, or other negotiable instruments from customers and apply them to the appropriate accounts

  • Cashes checks, pays out money, prepares and verifies cashier’s checks

  • Complete account transactions

  • Balance cash drawer at beginning, end, and during appropriate times during shift

  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints

  • Maintain customer confidentiality

  • Adhere to bank policies and procedures

  • Identifies transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance

  • Receives and processes cash shipments from the Bank’s armored car courier. Must be able to accurately count, verify and post the deliveries

  • Explains, promotes or sells products or services

  • Performs clerical duties on demand such as typing, filing, scanning and research

  • Answer inter-bank and inbound telephone calls

  • Regular attendance at staff and bank meetings. Be on time for the meetings and occasionally lead and/or contribute to the meetings

  • The employee shall maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating with the bank’s internal/external publics in a mutually respectful manner regardless of race, gender, creed, income, orientation or disability

  • The employee shall possess the ability to identify, address and resolve conflict using behavior and judgment that is moral, lawful and consistent with the bank’s mission statement, policies, goals and objectives

The Cardinal’s Nest

Position: Daycare Assistant Teacher Intern

A Daycare Assistant Teacher assists and leads teachers in the care, supervision and education of children in child daycare environments. They may also be referred to as a Child Care Assistant, Teacher Aide, Education Assistant, Instructional Aide, Paraprofessional or Paraeducator in some workplace settings.

Duties: Daycare Assistant Teachers work with or under the supervision of licensed teachers to perform the following general duties:

  • Review learning material with students, either individually or in small groups, to help reinforce lessons presented by lead teachers.

  • Supervise students in class, during lunch hour, playtime or recess, and at special events, like field trips.

  • Aid in teaching appropriate behavior and social skills to students.

  • Assist in enforcing school and classroom rules.

  • Assist with record keeping, such as attendance records, student progress notes and grades.

  • Help teachers prepare for lessons by assembling materials and equipment.

  • Provide personal aid and care as necessary to students, such as help with hygiene, eating or toileting, for example.

FARMER’S STATE BANK

Position: Teller Intern

Requirements: Normal office environment.
Good communication skills, as well as good mathematical, organization, computer, and standard office equipment skills. Must be able to lift up to 60 ounds. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time on a daily basis.

Duties: Cash checks, receive and issue receipts for checking and savings deposits, receive payments, assist in night depository/bank by mail functions, sell financial products, process transactions, count and package currency and coin, balance cash drawer, provide special services, assist authorized customers to safe deposit vault area, other related duties as requested.

COLUMBIA AUTO REPAIR & SALES

Position: Environmental Maintenance Intern

Hours: Anticipated 15-20/week

Duties: Shop cleanup and proper, safe disposal of waste materials.

BIG RIVER RESOURCES

Position: Monmouth & Aledo Interns

Duties: Assist trucks dumping corn into the pits and general outdoor housekeeping duties.
