The WIC program serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care. Many programs, such as the Healthy Mom/Healthy Baby, funded by the March of Dimes focus on health prevention and education regarding chronic diseases and reducing the risk of diseases.
MCHD is unique in its operation of the Toothmobile, a certified kitchen, the Emergency Management Agency, and Home Services. The Toothmobile is a mobile dental van that visits school sites and provides preventative care such as exams and cleanings. The Health Department subcontracts the Emergency Management Agency for the county focusing on emergency planning, trainings, and exercises for the county and emergency responders. Helping Hands Home Services provides non-medical, in-home care to residents with many different care options including household chores, errands and personal care.
