PARKS & RECREATION

Since 2018, MCBT has brought over $300,000 in grant funds to complete 24 revitalization projects in 13 Mercer County communities.

  • City of Aledo / Jaycee Park Rehabilitation

Built in the mid-1970s, Aledo’s Jaycee Park received a makeover in 2022. The park now features new play equipment and basketball hoops, added safety fencing and Mercer County’s first outdoor pickleball court.

  • City of Keithsburg / Keithsburg Kayak Project

Measuring 1,400 acres, the Keithsburg Division of The Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge is located north of Keithsburg along the Mississippi River Flyway. An ADA-accessible path, kayak launch and viewing deck have been installed, giving people two new ways to engage with the natural beauty of the Keithsburg area.

  • City of New Boston / Sturgeon Bay Park Project

The west side of New Boston is a center of community activity throughout the spring, summer and fall. Located near Sturgeon Bay Campground and the City’s popular splash park, the newly established Sturgeon Bay Park provides even more family friendly fun.

  • Eliza Township / Concession Stand Repair/Rebuild

Located on the site of a former elementary school-turned community center, the Eliza Ball Diamond hosts the area’s most prominent co-ed youth softball program, the Warren/Mercer County Junior Sheriff's Co-Ed Softball League. The hundreds of annual visitors now enjoy a newly rebuilt concession stand, which sustains the Eliza Softball program through its sales.

  • Mercer County Ag Society / Concrete Roadway Project

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, the 52-acre Mercer County Fairgrounds routinely hosts weddings, events, musical performances and has become a favorite place for dog walking. The over 20,000 annual visitors to the facility now enjoy a safe, accessible, quality surface for wheels and paws alike.

  • Mercer County Family YMCA / New Recreation Equipment

The Mercer County Family YMCA facilitates a variety of youth sports programs and provides health and wellness programming for all ages. New volleyball sets, youth sports equipment, speed bag and heavy bag enrich health and wellness experiences for the Mercer County community.

  • Village of Joy / Village Park Project

Joy’s Village Park brings families together and hosts a variety of events each year. The park now features new ramps to improve playground and restroom access, a more comfortable base at the playground and upgraded electrical wiring, outlets and lighting at the park pavilion.

  • Village of Matherville / Enjoy Lake Matherville Project

Nestled on the northwest side of town, Lake Matherville provides a beautiful community backdrop and hosts one of the region’s most popular fireworks shows on July 3rd each year. The former campground area was reawakened in 2022, with the installation of a lakeside multi-use path, new seating, beach improvements, new signage and more

  • Village of New Windsor / Baseball Field Upgrades

Youth baseball is a summertime staple in New Windsor, played at the Village’s baseball field near Rodeo Park. The facility now features a new lighted scoreboard, a revamped field with new diamond dirt and a new roof for the upgraded concession stand.

  • Village of North Henderson / New Playground Structure

North Henderson’s Village Park is a center of community activity. Located near W.A. Allgeyer Park and a few miles from both Knox and Warren counties, Village Park provides visitors with one of the area’s most accessible park experiences. New play equipment compliments a wheelchair-accessible swing, merry-go-round, child-sized picnic table and more.

  • Village of Seaton / Seaton Park Beautification

While the Village of Seaton is home to just over 200 residents, Seaton Park brings more than 2,500 visitors each year through park-based events, activities and playgroups. Decades of investment and collaboration by Village leaders, residents and volunteer organization Seaton Parks & Recreation For Kids’ Safety (SPARKS) have built a unique, diverse park experience. New landscaping and an upgraded pavilion greet visitors to Seaton Park.

  • Village of Sherrard / Sherrard Park Project, Phase II

Located across from the Sherrard Public Library in the Village’s downtown district, Sherrard Park is a key recreation spot for children and families in the Village and the neighboring Fyre Lake community. New play equipment compliments previous upgrades, made possible by proceeds of the annual Sherrard Pumpkin Fest.

  • Village of Viola / Miles Park Equipment Project

Viola’s Miles Memorial Park features two upgraded pavilions, a popular ballpark and plenty of shade on warm summer days. The park also includes two sections of updated play equipment, the newest of which was installed in spring 2023.
